If its in the Express it must be true

One of the great successful confidence tricks perpetrated by the British ruling classes in the early 21st century has been the demonisation of ‘benefit scroungers.’ Government has virtually declared war on people who are unable to work and have to rely on state benefits. Such people are by definition scroungers, and obviously undeserving.

In 2012 the British ‘celebrated’ the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth 11. She is head of the British royal family, a group of people who must rank as the ultimate benefit scroungers and largest recipients of state benefits in British history. In addition, this particular family must rank as one of the most dysfunctional families in the whole British Isles, but any suggestion that this family and its dependents are living on state benefits (in their case known as the civil list), is greeted with horror and suggestions of treason.
Another demonised section of the community are immigrants. There is hardly a day passes in the British tabloid press, particularly the appalling Daily Express, without one of them writing something derogatory and nasty about immigrants, particularly Muslim immigrants who, as everyone knows because the government and its agents in the tabloid press are constantly telling us, are all potential suicide bombers and wish the destruction of British society and culture. The Queen’s husband is an immigrant, a Greek, but of course he is white and is not a Muslim so that's OK.
The English Premier League of football is becoming predominantly staffed by immigrants, teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. are almost able to field a whole team of players with no indigenous British players on the field. They are all multimillionaires. But they aren’t demonised, no, they are rich and famous, they aren’t working class or Muslim. Most of England’s successful football teams are owned by foreigners, some of them immigrants, but very wealthy immigrants. So that’s OK. So, who is to blame for Britain’s woes? Who is to blame for the greatest financial crisis in our history, and who must be made to pay for solving the largest budget deficit in our history? Easy, benefit scroungers and immigrants (as long as they are not royalty) simples! The dominant ideology in the UK has demonised the public sector and its workforce, people on benefits, the disabled, the unemployed, immigrants and what they term, the undeserving poor, and the British public have bought into this disgusting scapegoating and support policies that defy intelligent understanding. Disability campaigners in the UK openly state that the government is fostering a hatred for them that sees them suffer discrimination, name-calling and physical abuse. This has been followed by a war on disability benefits that threaten to beggar disabled people. Welcome to modern Britain, a good god-fearing nation of tolerance and dignified behaviour towards the downtrodden and the poor.
